There will probably be a juice bar
When it's all said and done
To keep the neighborhood healthy
For now there is rebar painted green
Sprouted from the poured concrete
Like wheatgrass
Waiting to fortify
Towers and bank accounts
To cover the tracks
From the sidewalk shores of Atlantic and Pacific
The sunset is being gulped
Building by building
Someone will still get to see
The horizon
Juice an orange everyday
Yet asking the sunset to look at itself
In a skylength mirror
Feels grotesque
Windows sending those liquid colors
Back
From whence they came
When it's all made manifest
Destiny ripened from those ocean streets
They will look like shining seas
Ready as a straw
Having practiced all this time
To keep sucking the life
image of the horizon juicing an orange....ahhhh. lovely.
ReplyDeleteYes. I watch the glass towers slowly encroach year by year and don't feel great about it. The owner of our neighbourhood juice bar was fervently anti-bike lane and then sort of got run out of town and now the juice bar is about to become, we think, a grey market weed store.
ReplyDeleteThat other kind of high rise :)
