ode to little fox

little fox,

you belong elsewhere

or everywhere that is here

or in your own burrow,

far, far away.

or deep in the seat

of your throbbing heartseed

pulsing like a planet,

waiting to be born

coat slick and shiny

you dash to and fro’

sly one, lie down,

you have nowhere to go

shimmering creature

glimpsing dreams

and weaving spells

to cast them to you

dip your claws deep

in earth let her metal

move through you

electric, electric,

little fox, yes you are!

with a force such as that

who can handle a car?

little fox, hop the train

and head to new york

toe shoes in tact

and pact with red star

may the city nest catch you

and spit you out right

an angel in waiting

is one with the night
